Young Canada Works: Curatorial Assistant

About the role:

The Gordon and Marion Smith Foundation is hiring a Curatorial Assistant who will support the development and installation of the Smith Foundation’s 2022 Summer Exhibition entitled We Can Only Hint at This with Words, being curated by Kate Henderson and installed at the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art in North Vancouver.

The students will be involved in the development and execution of educational, public programming, and didactic materials that will accompany the exhibition including: MyTours, an app which, once scripted (by the student) will document all the works in the exhibition, providing the public a self-guided tour option; weekly virtual public docent-led tours; virtual academic panel discussions about the exhibition which will include several of the participating artists, and the show’s curator; artists talks; and other programming still to be developed.

The Curatorial Assistant will also assist with social media marketing and communications. As well, they will have the opportunity to work to continue the digitization of the extensive works resident in the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art permanent teaching collection (625 plus original works), thus providing access, moving forward, to exhibitions that previously could only be seen if one were physically present at the gallery.
